Food Drive at Koki’s Tortillas
April 24, 2020 - Koki’s Tortillas 2992 Sullivant Ave
On April 24th, we arrived on site with the intention of passing out 250 bags during the event scheduled from 9am to 11am. When we showed up at 7:45, there was already a long line of cars waiting for food.
We got to work and began packing bags and passing them out to the cars in line. By 9, we had gone through all 250 bags!
There was still a huge line of cars and so we sent some volunteers to the store to purchase more food. While families waited for food, the line of cars became quite long. Several police officers from the Columbus Police Department independently stopped to ask what was going on and when they learned it was a food drive, all of them were very nice and supportive. One officer helped by setting up flairs and cones on Sullivant. The traffic pattern for the drive had to be changed, so that the cars went all the way to Broad St and then came back to Koki’s on a side street, so that they could line up along the side street.
The owner of Koki’s (Koki) was an incredible force and she was helping to pack bags faster than anyone. In the end, we passed out about 500 bags.
We will be doing this again. If you’d like to donate, please go here or if you’d like to become an official partner on the next event, please email lauren@simakovskylaw.com.
